this man illustrated my childhood.

when i was eleven years old i went to my first concert and i knew that music was something that i definitely wanted to be involved in. for someone as socially awkward as i was playing music seemed to be a way to break out of that mold and be someone cool, the thought of meeting girls and being a rock star didn’t hurt either. when i got into high school and began to play guitar i was always in competition with everyone around me as to whether i was “good enough” to call myself a musician. if i saw a local band i would either think, ‘man i could do that,’ or when realizing that i couldn’t i would enter a deep depression questioning my self worth.
but as i sit here , i’ve realized that my ideals about music have changed.
music for me, is a personal journey. it’s something that i can use not just to escape from my own awkward self, but to embrace parts of my personality that i didn’t know i had. i’ve had ups and downs as far as music goes, especially over the last few years, but music is like breathing to me. it’s simply a part of who i am.
so, with all of that in mind i’ve been working on something. it’s different from what i’ve done before, if only because it comes from a different place. i can’t wait for you guys to hear it, and i’ll be putting up a lot more information later. i hope you all like it, and i’m sorry if you don’t, but the only person i’m in competition with anymore is myself. and it’s a lot more fun this way.

i’m actually close to finishing the first song i’ve written since the band broke up. kind of surreal but fantastic at the same time.

i’m going to see hemingway’s house in key west tomorrow. that’s a good excuse as any to post a picture of the literary badass himself.

the new red hot chili peppers album is amazing… also, i’m re-reading frankenstein and as good as it is, i’m kinda getting bummed out.
